The Overseas Food Corporation in collaboration with the East African Meteorological Department conducted experiments during the rainy season, January - April in 1951 and 1952 (2,3). The site of the experiments was a cleared area of some 200 square miles near Kongwa , Tanganyika (Now Tanzania).
There was a network of about 50 rain-gauge's in the cleared area. In the 1951 season the seeding agent used was silver iodide, dispersed either from ground generators or from balloon-borne bombs (see para. 3(b)(ii)).
There were periods in this season when conditions were unsuitable for successful seeding operations. Considering only days other than these it was concluded that the experiments were probably unsuccessful on 12, inconclusive on 10 and probably successful on 5 days..
